It also helps to re-set the nervous system and activate the “rest and digest” part of the nervous system so our body can properly recover and repair from daily life and other stressors. The stress response plays such a huge role in trauma, which is why I am a big advocate of using guided meditation as a tool for healing from trauma and abuse.
